YHU Terminal is a partnership between Porter Aviation Holdings and Macquarie Asset Management aimed at developing and operating a new state-of-the-art passenger terminal at MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport in Saint-Hubert.
The company has begun construction of modern airport facilities to support the growth of scheduled commercial flights, including the arrival of large-capacity aircraft.
Opening. Saint-Hubert is one of Canada's oldest airports and is often referred to as the country's first civilian airport. It quickly became the main airport in the Montreal area, ahead of Dorval.
The site played a pioneering role in air travel between Canada and the United States and also hosted aviation-related infrastructure of the time (e.g., facilities for R-100 airships)
Civilian traffic is transferred to Dorval. Saint-Hubert loses its role as the main civilian airport and becomes a primarily military site, used for Royal Canadian Air Force training.
The site consolidates a strong heritage of aeronautical training, a tradition that will continue with civil aviation
Return to civilian use in Saint-Hubert with Transport Canada as owner/operator; part of Cartierville's traffic is moved there
Major aeronautical hub; Arrival/expansion of industrial and maintenance players; Establishment of the National Aeronautical Engineering School (1973); High level of activity among flight schools.
The airport becomes one of the busiest in Canada for general aviation (aircraft movements), a role it still holds today.
Transport Canada transfers the airport to DASH-L (Development of Saint-Hubert Airport in Longueuil), a local non-profit organization. The official announcement is made in September 2004.
This step is in line with Canada's approach to local airport management through long-term leases/agreements.
Investment and preparation for growth (infrastructure, areas, services, etc.) to support more civil and commercial activities
Rebranding — The airport announces its change of identity to MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport, clearly marking its goal to develop commercial aviation in addition to general aviation.
Work began in the summer of 2023 with the construction of the passenger terminal and essential infrastructure, including a de-icing center, Jet A-1 fuel storage, service buildings (including catering), and other ground facilities. The entire project is designed to accommodate up to 4 million passengers per year in an initial domestic operation mode.
The new terminal is scheduled to open
in spring 2026.
